Video in paper magazines

We all study the paper magazines daily and there won’t be any video inside it, but here comes from September the first-ever video advertisement will be published in a traditional paper magazine. The video-in-print ads will appear in select copies of the US show business title Entertainment Weekly. The slim-line screens - around the size of a mobile phone display - also have rechargeable batteries. The chip technology used to store the video - described as similar to that used in singing greeting cards - is activated when the page is turned. Each chip can hold up to 40 minutes of video. The first clips will preview programmes from US TV network CBS and show adverts by the drinks company Pepsi. They will appear in 18 September editions of the magazine distributed in Los Angeles and New York. It's believed the new technology will cost much more than normal print ads.

Arnold invites SRK

Shahrukh Khan the Bollywood superstar, who has millions of fans all around the world, is been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The incident of him being detained in the US airport. He was questioned for two hours. His fans have reacted sharply, by accusing the US officials of racial profiling. A very unpleased SRK was seen speaking to the media about his ordeal in the US. A recent development is that the governor of California Arnold has invited SRK for dinner. He invited SRK when he was about to leave for India. Hopefully this friendly gesture will put this unpleasantness to rest.

Nasa drops 'spiderbots' into volatile volcano

Nasa scientists have placed about a dozen monitoring ‘spiderbots’ inside the volcanic crater in Mount St Helens in the US, which are high-tech devices that can detect an impending eruption. Mount St Helens is one of the most active volcanoes in the US. According to a report in National Geographic News, about a dozen so-called Spiders were placed on Mount St Helens in July. The volcano had seen activity in 2004. The pods, designed to go where no human can, were lowered by helicopter inside and around the volcano center. The pods form a virtual wireless network and communicate with each other and a Nasa satellite called Earth Observing-1, or EO-1. Each pod contains a seismometer, a GPS receiver, an infrared sounder to sense explosions, and a lightning detector.

Hurricanes in modern times

You would have heard about hurricanes, which is nothing but the heavy wind strikes the land. Nowadays hurricanes are more frequent in the Atlantic region than at any time in the last 1,000 years, according to research just published in the journal Nature. When a hurricane strikes the land they will always leave some sediments and that was examined by the scientists that crossed the coast in North America and the Caribbean. After examining it the scientist said the record suggests modern hurricane activity is unusual - though it might have been even higher 1,000 years ago. It has been a controversial topic for several years. In Penn University, the Study leader Michael Mann believes that while not providing a definitive answer, this work does add a useful piece to the puzzle and he also suggested that various teams using different computer models have come up with different answers, it has been hotly debated. Michael Mann said "I would argue that this study presents some useful palaeoclimatic data points."

British team leaves after threat

The British badminton team has chosen to quit the world championships due to the media reports of a specific terror threat. It is very un fortunate that elements of terror are targeting the sportsmen. Sports are seen as the unifier between different nations. It is bridge which makes us see beyond our differences. It is very important that the sportsmen are given enough safety due to the present violent situations in some countries. The sportsmen should be given assurances of their safety.
